Levi, Easter 2016

We have just returned from our 2nd Easter trip to Levi, Finland's Ski Resort of the Year for 2016, and it would be fair to say that we have all had an even better time (if that's possible) than we did last Easter in 2015!
We flew from Manchester, which made things a little easier, and stayed this year at the Immelmokit cabins, at the edge of the village down by Lake Immeljarvi. There's no doubt this was a good choice, as we had a much more respectably sized cabin for starters, and it was a nice location by the lake. With a couple of good bedrooms as well as 4 beds upstairs, there was plenty of room.
Our cottage close to Immeljarvi Lake.
We arrived to plenty of snow, as you can see above and Sandy and Olivia immediately got to work on the first afternoon to dig a tunnel through from the house to the other side. It took them a few days, but they did it!
The week was spent mostly skiing, though we had half a day off to head to see the huskies at Tundra Huskies, which was a really memorable day! With truly wonderful weather most of the week, we enjoyed long days on the slopes, followed by nightly relaxation in the cottage's wonderful sauna.

One or two days at the start of the week were misty to start with.

The photos below show the best of the rest of the week, topped off on the final evening by a long walk on Lake Immeljarvi late in the evening, waiting for it to get dark enough to see the magical Northern Lights!
Entrance to a truly magical place - Tundra Huskies
Our afternoon at Tundra Huskies was a real highlight. In 2015, we spent a couple of hours at Levi Husky Park and it was a great experience, but Tundra Huskies surpassed that easily. The whole trip was magical from start to finish, with owners Tom and Minna ensuring that the visitors were treated fantastically. We heard about the necessary precautions and safety aspects first - for example we were not to try to pet any of the 74 huskies before they took us for rides, as they'd be too excitable, and this was definitely the case as the dogs were leaping around and pulling on their ropes and sleds. After this we were off through the forest, with both me and Sandy in charge of individual sleds.

By Zero Point, another gorgeous day beginning!
Out on the frozen lake, Immeljarvi, on the last night.
The week passed quickly, and no wonder with such lovely weather, crisp and powdery snow, and good lunches out on the fell. We spent a few hours in the sauna every evening, and on the last night with Northern Lights promised, Anna and I walked about a mile out on Immeljarvi Lake which was a great experience as it grew dark.
About 11.00pm, the promised Northern Lights did appear and we spent about 30 minutes marvelling at them along with perhaps a hundred other people who were also out on the frozen lake too!

By the final morning, we felt refreshed but sad to be leaving. Levi really is a heavenly place to ski- it has such wonderfully quiet and well-groomed slopes, as well as countless other attractions to keep you busy. There's no doubt we'll be back, sooner or later!
